INTENSIVE ESL PROGRAM

The philosophy of our ESL Program at our university is that English is best learned through communicative and interactive ways that not only emphasize basic critical thinking and problem solving skills but also incorporate as much cultural material as possible.

All classes are taught in a communicative and interactive way incorporating as much cultural content as possible. Thus the student is learning not only the skills needed to achieve the goal of mastering English, but also the appropriate context in which to use them while living in the United States.

Program Description

LASU offer 3 different levels of ESL courses: Beginning ESL (Level I); Intermediate ESL (Level II); Advanced ESL (Level III) and the TOEFL preparation course. The length of each session is 12 weeks long. To ensure and encourage proper learning, all students in ESL classes are administered quizzes on material learned, in addition to a final comprehensive exam.

Program Objectives

The curriculum emphasizes all four-language skills: listening, speaking, writing, and reading. Students, then, learn how to communicate in English, which in turn will help them to understand the many facets of American culture. Additionally, this program provides students the requisite language skills that will allow them to function in all kinds of situations, advanced academic pursuits, cultural exploration and proficiency within the business world.
